If This Was A Movie
It is a story about the disintegration of Yugoslavia after 1990 and the process of separation of the peoples in this country.
If This Was a Movie, played at Bahçeşehir University Conservatory Pera Campus / Black Box, has a very strong expression in terms of its stage. The fact that the theater is in the audience instead of in front of the audience makes the play an element that triggers adrenaline and belonging.
The subject of the game; It is a family story about how ethnic, religious and cultural exclusion paves the way for tensions and irreversible pain and rupture through relationships within a small family.
At the beginning of the play, seeing the year 1990 alive with accessories and costumes gives pleasure and warmth, while at the same time, we find ourselves in the smell of a very tense drama with the reenactment of the 90's Yugoslavia.
Throughout the play, the stage energy spreads evenly throughout the stage, as the actors, when it's their turn, step out of the audience, not from a backstage. This nested location; The psychology of the period kept alive made a game that carries the possible dynamics up every second at every moment. The fact that the characters in the family in the game represent many colors and textures that are independent of each other conveys the current day quite satisfactorily. In addition, the personal pursuits of the characters they portray create a very soft contact between the actor and the audience.
The father character's interest in photography, the mother character's knitting, the aunt's tendency to meditation and the bond that the boy of the house establishes with the guitar, the spirit dressed in the space (stage) with all these objects become the main elements that support the drama.
Another detail that makes the game enjoyable is that we listen to the voice of a narrator. The narrator is another son of the small family in the play. We witness a sincere narration as if the other son of the family, who told us his story from a year close to the present, is showing us the memories left in his mind. The narrator, who is in the audience from time to time, makes the narration from the stage to us from time to time. Hearing this story, which we listen and watch, from the third person, establishes a personal communication network between each viewer and the narrator. The director of this play, which was handled with a very good dramaturgy, is Serkan Üstüner, and the cast; We congratulate Ahmet Mete Balyan, Anıl Çalım, Cansu Bahadır, İlayda Güralp, Doruk Öztürk, Garip Can Yıldırım and Oğuz Kaan Kahraman.
May your spotlight never go out 'If This Was A Movie'.
